Adani Total Gas Limited: CGD Expansion, CNG–LNG Infrastructure & India’s Clean Energy Transition

About Adani Total Gas Limited

The Adani Total Gas CGD network is rapidly expanding across India, covering CNG stations, LNG infrastructure, PNG supply, EV charging, and biogas projects. Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL) is a major City Gas Distribution (CGD) company in India and operates as a joint venture between TotalEnergies (37.4% stake) and Adani Group.

Through this partnership, ATGL ranks among India’s largest municipal gas distributors, supplying PNG to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers while providing CNG for the transport sector.

Currently, ATGL operates across 34 geographical areas directly and an additional 19 GAs through its 50:50 joint venture with Indian Oil Corporation under Indian Oil Adani Gas Pvt Ltd (IOAGPL).

The company continues to expand its CNG network, with future-ready plans to integrate LNG and green hydrogen.

Building India’s City Gas Infrastructure

  • Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for homes
  • Natural gas for industries and commercial customers
  • CNG for transport vehicles
  • LNG stations for medium and heavy commercial vehicles

This multi-layered approach supports India’s transition toward cleaner fuels while strengthening last-mile gas connectivity.

ATGL has already developed city gas networks in Ahmedabad and Vadodara (Gujarat), Faridabad (Haryana), and Khurja (Uttar Pradesh). Additional CGD projects, including Allahabad, Chandigarh, Ernakulam, Panipat, Daman, Dharwad, and Udhamsingh Nagar, are being executed through the ATGL–IOCL consortium.

CNG & LNG Stations Through the DODO Model

  • Land arranged by dealer
  • Civil construction and electrical works by dealer
  • Compressors, LNG dispensers and storage systems by ATGL
  • HSE training and operational standards by ATGL
  • Minimum 15-year lease agreements
ATGL currently operates 300+ CNG stations with over 8,000 km of pipeline network supplying gas to thousands of industrial/commercial customers and more than 5 lakh domestic households.

For LNG stations, ATGL follows a similar DODO framework, targeting logistics corridors and major transport routes to support heavy vehicle decarbonisation.

Biogas Development

Adani TotalEnergies Biomass Limited (ATBL) is developing compressed biogas projects, including Barsana (UP) with ~10 TPD capacity, with additional plants planned in Ahmedabad and Rajkot.

Leadership & Vision

Adani Total Gas CGD Network operates under CEO Suresh P Manglani with strategic guidance from Chairman Gautam Adani.

To be a world-class leader in infrastructure-driven sustainable energy, enriching lives through responsible value creation.

My Technical Perspective

Coming from LNG and LCNG operations, ATGL’s CGD and DODO frameworks show how systematically downstream gas infrastructure is being built in India, from land acquisition and compressor installation to SAP logistics, safety certification and dealership onboarding.

What stands out is the integration of gas distribution, transpSort fuel, EV charging and biogas production, positioning ATGL as a multi-fuel clean energy platform.
